♦Think-Feel-Discover: What does it mean for Alexander College to participate with graduate students in street style photography during the Fashion Awards 2019 in London?
It is a unique opportunity for our graduates and a great honor for our college to be part of this international fashion event and have this experience. Moreover, It adds to the opportunities one has though hard work and the possibilities and prospects given in the fashion industry. Above all, It would be a great example to set for future students.
♦Think-Feel-Discover: Tell us about your sustainability project. How important is it for your educational program.
Materials are an integral part of all design disciplines and have a critical impact on the current state of the environment. As designers, we need to rethink a more sustainable way of design. Such a responsibility in today’s society is a priority to our educational program.
♦Think-Feel-Discover: How important is it for you as a teacher to see your students receive the First Prize at Athens Exclusive Designers Week 2019 Greece for the new designer?
As a lecturer, such achievement is a reword, and satisfaction for all our efforts and mentoring. We are all proud of moments like this we recently shared in Athens.
♦Think-Feel-Discover: What has been your proudest moment while working at Alexander College?
There are so many moments in so many ways. Each year our student’s graduate is a proud moment. Recently, Our graduate Eleni Ipsou (IP-Suits) won the Best New Designer award at Athens Xclusive Designers Week in Greece. Every year our graduates work for international companies and fashion agencies.
♦Think-Feel-Discover: And what strategies do you use to support emerging designers?
At Alexander College, we encourage our students to use our facilities for their future collections. Our students participate in projects which more often lead to employment. We have a 90% employability score.
♦Think-Feel-Discover: What is your best advice for your graduate students?
Ignore the haters, and block the static noise of negativity from those that surround you. In short, follow your dreams. Be focused, determined, and disciplined. Then you will succeed!
♦Think-Feel-Discover: What does the future promise for a Fashion student at Alexander College?
New programs, state of the art technology and an expansion of collaborations with other markets in the world.
♦Think-Feel-Discover: What is your best advice for your graduate students?
Ignore the haters, and block the static noise of negativity from those that surround you. Above all, Follow your dreams. Be focused, determined, and disciplined. Then you will succeed!
♦Think-Feel-Discover: In your opinion, what makes a portfolio stand out?
A portfolio is a visual tool for designers to showcase their creative skills, abilities, and design ideas. Meanwhile, It needs to reflect the designers’ signature, creative flair, and unique aesthetic. In the same vein, Presenting work that is innovative in an open-minded approach to design will also make their portfolio stand out.
♦Think-Feel-Discover: There are so many areas in the fashion industry. Where do you see the best opportunities for your Fashion graduates?
It’s about finding what you do best. However, Find your place in the market, create your aesthetic, and try to be the best in your field. The list of opportunities is endless.
♦Think-Feel-Discover: What do you think will be the future of fashion in the next ten years?
I think fashion will evolve further into the technology realm. In other words, Innovative fabrics with embedded Nanotechnology will reform the way we dress. However, Fashion changes when the world needs it to change.
♦Think-Feel-Discover: What does inspire you as a Fashion teacher? What do you enjoy the most in your work?
The constant energy and imagination that students generate is a continuous inspiration. Above all, I always enjoy sharing my knowledge of the last 25 years in the fashion industry with students.
♦Think-Feel-Discover: What does Fashion Awards 2019 mean to Alexander College in three words?
It would be fair to say Design, Innovation, and Experimentation.
