8)What is your favourite aspect of being a fashion designer? Additionally, what are the main challenges you face in this profession?
I consider myself extremely fortunate to have the opportunity to engage in a profession that I am passionate about daily. Moreover, this line of work provides me with constant learning opportunities. It can be very challenging since each season presents a new muse, requiring me to envision it from a fresh perspective to create a collection. The primary objective is to develop commercially viable products that generate substantial revenue for the business.
9)How many people did it take to produce the 2024 collection? What was the inspiration behind the collection?
Ten Micro-Entrepreneurs, each with ten female members, were involved in producing this collection, totalling 100 female artisans. The inspiration behind this collection is a journey towards stability, symbolized by the base colour beige, representing a desert. On the other hand, the colour blue represents both the sky and the sea, symbolizing open spaces and freedom. The motifs in this collection are inspired by ancient sign languages, depicting meanings of depth, trust, loyalty, and sincerity.
10)Which was the most intricate and detailed piece in the collection?
That is an excellent question! The cape dress with a blue motif at the back stands out due to its intricate design. However, the three-layered gown with an ancient motif at the back is the most elaborate and detailed piece.
11)Which gown is your favourite standout from the collection?
Now that is a difficult one – I like the Georgette cape dress with the same colour embroidery on the hem. It is elegant and timeless and for every age.
12)What is the proportion between haute couture and ready-to-wear in your work today?
The proportion of items manufactured is 30% haute couture and 70% ready-to-wear. However, from a business perspective, the situation is reversed.
13)How crucial is Haute Couture Fashion Week in 2024?
Couture holds a unique and prestigious position within the fashion industry, with its distinct style and appeal. Unlike seasonal fashion, Haute Couture Fashion Week keeps growing in importance each year.
14)What have you learned as a fashion designer from collaborating with Kaarvan Crafts?
This collaboration combines art, craft, and fashion to challenge the boundaries. It has sparked numerous thought-provoking questions for me. I am particularly fascinated by the potential for women to preserve the legacy of this craft and achieve professional and financial independence through their expertise in it.
15)How would you describe your signature style in terms of your work and your day-to-day dress?
I think the hint of embellishment is my signature style with undertone silhouettes. I like to be more monochromatic with a high neck in dark tones when it comes to my day-to-day dressing as I love to dress up smart casual that can be multifunctional to attend a meeting or event post work.
16)How would you say your style has evolved over the years?
It has gained significant commercial popularity. I must confess that for broader audiences, we need to adapt the style to make it more accessible for ready-to-wear garments. However, when it comes to couture, that is where our journey began. Couture emanates from within and remains unaffected.
17)What does it mean luxury in fashion to you?
In my perspective, luxury embodies both comfort and wearability. Luxury is not just to wear. Above all, it is elegantly draped upon the subject, creating an illusion of mystery and intrigue in its silhouette.
18) What is the value of craftsmanship in fashion?
Craftsmanship is the essence of the fashion industry. The thing that captures our attention is not just physical attraction but rather the ability of a piece to evoke emotions beyond itself. The true magnificence of a garment or accessory lies in the meticulous craftsmanship that forms the very core and foundation of it.
