This collaboration creates a vital dialogue with local artisans. It honours the stories of the women who make each piece and recognizes their exceptional skills. Moreover, this conversation builds a community that creates real change in fashion. Attending Omar Mansoor’s fashion show at London Fashion Week taught me that mindful design means working together on a shared goal.

Above all, the Meluhas Collection is significant due to its connections with the ancient Indus Valley civilization of the Middle Bronze Age. It is famous for its remarkable seals, pottery, and jewellery craftsmanship. This collection draws inspiration from red clay pottery, showcasing earthy colours that convey warmth and simplicity. Additionally, hand-embroidered motifs created by rural Indigenous artisans reflect the intricate designs of that era.

Crafting a Brighter Future: Omar’s Partnership with Kaarvan Crafts Foundation Empowers Women.

Omar Mansoor strongly advocates for sustainability in fashion, utilizing new and recycled fibres in his collections. However, his partnership with the Kaarvan Crafts Foundation supports rural women artisans. Most importantly, it allows them to showcase their skills and achieve economic empowerment.

Inspired by the Indus Valley civilization, Omar highlights the embroidery skills of rural Pakistani women—their Involvement in the Women’s Economic Empowerment program, which Kaarvan and the British Asian Trust support. That is to say, backed by the UK government’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office, Kaarvan has empowered over 29,000 women in 1,000 villages through education and job opportunities.

However, the collection has received praise from notable figures such as Her Excellency Jane Marriott and Ms. Krista Pikkat from UNESCO. He also highlighted the #WhoMadeMyClothes movement, which aims to assist grassroots artisans in entering the luxury market.

How did the launch of your collection at London Fashion Week influence the tone of your global tour?

London is our label’s home and one of the world’s fashion capitals. Launching ‘Meluhas’ at London Fashion Week, especially in its 40th anniversary year, was a strategic move that set a high standard for the global tour of the collection. It allowed us to introduce the collection in a dynamic, influential environment.

Why was starting your journey in London vital to you? What specific responses or feedback did you receive from the audience there that influenced your global tour?

With its discerning fashion community, London has always been our core market. Positive feedback from fashion critics, stylists, and influencers and encouragement from key figures like the British High Commissioner to Pakistan, H.E. Jane Marriott, solidified London as the perfect launchpad. Their support helped us understand the global relevance of our narrative and set the tone for the worldwide tour.

How has exposure at London Fashion Week increased global interest in the Meluhas Collection?

London’s influence sparked widespread media coverage and social media buzz, expanding the collection’s visibility. The excitement generated in London created anticipation across other regions, with audiences already eager to see the collection when it toured their cities.

Could you walk us through the specific artistic challenges you faced in presenting four consecutive performances in four countries? How did you overcome these challenges, and what did you learn from the experience?

Styling the collection across different countries with diverse body types and aesthetics was challenging. Each city required its approach to hair, makeup, and the presentation setting, but the consistent choice of minimalist, nude makeup and smokey eyes proved the most effective. This taught me the importance of adaptability while maintaining a core identity.
