Dazzling Jewellery Trends: An Exclusive Chat with Vasso Galati

1. You were born in Athens and studied Fine Arts at VAKALO. How did this artistic foundation lead you into jewellery?

Since childhood, I have enjoyed creating small, handmade ornaments from various materials, making gifts for myself and my friends. Studying Fine Arts gave me the confidence to take this instinct seriously and to transform it into a language of form and design.

2. London is a city full of energy, contrasts, and bold street style. How does this atmosphere inspire you?

I love it. London’s diversity and freedom of expression remind me that jewellery must always feel alive, not static.

3. How do your family experience and Greek roots shape the style of your creations?

Weaving, metal, and pearls are at the core of my work. But deeper than that, it’s the colours, the shells, and the textures of Greece that guide me every time.

4. What role does the “calmness” you sought since childhood play in your artistic identity today?

I believe that anything you create with love succeeds—it expresses that love.

5. Do you remember the first time you created a piece of jewellery and what you felt?

Yes—the first time I exhibited abroad. I realized that something made by my own hands could carry my story into another world.

6. How important was your family and environment in choosing this path?

The support and trust they provided gave me the freedom to explore.

7. What does the word “creation” mean to you personally?

That everything I make with love reflects that same love—it is the essence of my work.

8. What gives you the greatest joy in your work today?

When I finish a design and begin testing which material suits it best, that moment of discovery always excites me.

9. Silver, gold, pearls, coral, turquoise—how do you choose which material dominates each piece?

I experiment. I complete the design and test it with various materials until I find the one that best suits the piece.

10. The use of thread to “weave” metals is unique. How did this technique emerge?

It came naturally. Many times, when working with my colleagues, I began to “play” with thread and metal together. From there, the weaving became a signature part of my work.

11. How do you play with colour to capture the light and the sea of Greece?

The colours of Greece inspire me—the blues, the greens, the shells along the shore. Each piece reflects those images.

12. Is there one material you consider your signature?

Yes—my bracelet is full of uneven, asymmetrical pearls. It represents the beauty of imperfection, like nature itself.

13. What fascinates you most: the stone, the metal, or the way they “speak” together?

The dialogue between them. When stone and metal meet, something magical happens.

14. If your jewellery could speak, what would it say to the London audience?

That each piece is alive, each jewel carries its own story, and no two are ever the same.

15. How do you feel seeing your jewellery styled through our collaboration and worn on the streets of London during London Fashion Week?

It fills me with joy and pride. To see my pieces in movement, in dialogue with street style, is to see them truly alive.

16. If London were a precious stone, which would it be?

Emerald—vibrant, powerful, full of depth and light.

17. How would you describe the image of the “London woman” wearing Vasso’s Galati Handcrafted Jewellery?

Bold yet elegant. A woman who knows what she wants, and she wears jewellery not as decoration, but as an extension of herself.

18. How would you like the London audience to remember you after this Fashion Week?

That my pieces are unique, that no two are ever the same, even within the same design, and that they feel compelled to wear them.

19. Your jewellery is already present in many countries. What is your greatest challenge each time you design something new?

To remain authentic. Every design must stay true to my voice, even as I explore new ideas.

20. If you had to summarise your creative vision in one phrase, what would it be?

To present my work internationally, always bringing new ideas, while staying faithful to the handmade.

“My only motivation is the love of making things with my hands.”
