♦What are your earliest memories of your contact with jewelry?
My initial encounter with jewelry began through the clothing I designed in my drawings. I also created comic-like stories, and while dressing my characters, I designed the accessories and jewelry that complemented them.
♦How did repairing your mother’s damaged jewelry influence you?
In the environment where I grew up, making and repairing things was a family affair. My father was both an engineer and a handyperson, while my mother was inventive and practical. My mother created beautiful jewelry that sparkled with color, skillfully combining design with functional construction solutions.
♦How did your studies in decoration and painting shape your design perspective?
My studies have deepened my understanding of jewelry, allowing me to see it not just as ornamentation or something shiny, but as an artistic object with its own unique proportions, balance, and colors. Each line and curve creates a familiar space that I continue to explore in the world of jewelry..

♦Was there a specific moment when you realized handmade jewelry was your path?
I started studying jewelry to engage in a creative pursuit. Witnessing how hands could skillfully manipulate metal and other materials to create beautiful pieces made me realize that this was the right field for me. It perfectly combined art and technique, as well as imagination and practicality. So, when I completed my work in graphic design, I eagerly moved on to this next chapter in my journey.
♦How was the brand name “Miau Niau” born, and how did the first handmade collection begin?
My two cats inspired the name of my first studio-workshop, Marina and Mr. Zacharias. We lived and worked together, and they sparked the idea for my creations. Instead of hanging stones from women’s earrings, I would feature cats and other animals. Instead of gemstones, I would secure elephants onto rings and balance dogs, giraffes, and ducks on necklaces.
♦What attracts you to animals as visual symbols?
When I was younger, I wanted to be a veterinarian. I love animals and have lived with them for many years. They provide me with the most immediate connection to nature.

♦Humor is a powerful element in your work. How conscious is that choice?
Humor saves lives. It provides courage, sparks imagination, and helps us maintain perspective so we do not take things too personally. Humor reduces our ego and the significance we place on ourselves, lifts our mood, and often allows us to express truths that might otherwise remain unspoken or be hurtful. Those who understand will get it.
♦Why is copper your key metal?
Copper is an exceptional metal. It is noble and takes many forms through its oxidation states. I love its warm color, and it is much more affordable for the large pieces I create. However, copper requires handmade processing because it cannot be easily laser-cut or cast on a small scale. Hand, which connects me to the jewelry and to its final recipient, my client, cut and processed every copper piece.

♦What does combining copper with silver or semi-precious stones offer you in terms of storytelling?
Introducing silver and semi-precious stones expanded the range of colors in my palette. The cool gray of silver filled the gap left by the warm tones of copper, while the semi-precious stones, with colors that reflected the metal’s oxidation, added an extra layer of brilliance. This combination also attracted people who were initially hesitant about copper jewelry, drawn by its refined craftsmanship and contemporary designs.
